He was Town Clerk for 40 years and served as Treasurer from 1844 -1845; served State Legislature 1849 & 1855. Alfred was the first President of Berlin Savings Bank, 1873 - 1893. He lived at 764 Worthington Ridge; house was built before 1850. Bought Mr. Booth's property in 1840 and Alfred Woods property and started a store. During 1869 - dry goods, groceries, and provisions. Berlin Congregational Church Records show that he joined the church in 1829 and again by certificate with his wife, Mary, in 1841. He was appointed Deacon of the church in 1831 at age 21 years. He was Superintendant of the church school for 50 years.
