Titles "Esq." and "Col." appear with his name. During 1797 Town Meeting he and General Selah Hart with Amos Hosford were appointed to a Committee to repair bridges and abutments damaged after flood. At a MAY 4, 1798 Town Meeting the same people were appointed as agents "to oppose the road from Hartford to New Haven in the places where the same had been laid in Berlin, by a Committee appointed by the General Assembly". BPLH Room Card Notes record that he was the 2nd son of Seth [1779-1851] and Betsy Elizabeth (Stanley) [1780-1862], daughter of Cap. Gad Stanley [1735-1815] of Stanley Quarter in New Britain. He learned the blacksmith trade from his father.
