He worked at his father's farm in Newington. Attended Munson Academy, then Williston Academy, graduating in 1873. He worked on his father's farm in Newington. William bought a large sawmill. After 10 years he sold the plant and rented a smaller mill where he cut up timber and wood for Hartford market. An ad in 1896 Berlin Agricultural Fair Program at the Post Office he was selling medicines and groceries; he added firewood; in 16 NOV 1905 he added seed, cord and firewood. During 1910 secured a State contract for supplying materials and erecting guard railings along state highways.
During 1905 he represented Berlin in State Legislature, Was Berlin, CT Selectman in 1893. He was a member of the Home Guard in 1918. William belonged to the Grange and worshiped at Berlin Congregational Church.
