Purchased old Berlin Hotel [tavern] in 1842. North records that his "efficient" wife and daughter made it a popular place of resort especially in winter for sleighing parties. He retired to 203 Hudson Street in 1863 after running the Berlin Hotel at 812 - 4 Worthington Ridge for 20 years. During 1860 census he was 53 and a hotel proprietor. BPLH Room Card Notes record that he was the first mail carrier from Berlin depot. At 10pm he delivered the mail bag to the postmaster, who slept with it until morning.
