Came to Berlin with his parents, James W. and Gracie [Smith] Woodruff around 1893. He graduated from in 1898 from New Britain High School. He then went to work at his parent's Grocery and Feed Store, which stood on the Northeast corner of Farmington Ave. and Worthington Ridge in Berlin; he remained there for 20 years. In 1905, he was made a Deacon of Berlin Congregational Church and continued in that position until 1950 when he was made an Honorary Life Deacon. He was Town Clerk from 1918 to 1955. Also in 1918 he became Treasurer to fill a vacancy after the death of Francis H. Shaw ; he held that position until 1951. His home was on Worthington Ridge. |
