Card catalog notes: Married Sally Flagg, daughter of Solomon and Olive Hart Flagg, lived in 1/2 of old house. Had 17 children. He lived in one half of the old tavern, all their children were born there. He and his family later moved "down the street" and near the end of his life he "lay in bed while his wife worked hard to support the family by taking boarders." Founded 1st church school (probably at Berlin Congregational Church --cataloger's note). Was town clerk and Berlin selectman in 1813 and 1832. Master of Harmony Lodge #20 (Masonic) 1811-16, 1820. Joined Berlin Congregational Church in 1801, dismissed in 1849. North history records his date of birth as 1868.
Note: record of children's names incomplete (5/4/2000). Allen Beckley record states twin sons died C. 1811; son Luther,died 1816, …, 15th age 1 year 3 months, 29 days; son Joseph died April 3, 1824 1 year, 2 days
