Abijah was Selectman 1820 - 1823 and 1827 -1831. He was Town Clerk 1833 - 1836. He was Magistrate of Berlin [in those days New Britain was a parish and district of Berlin]. He lived at 25 south High St., New Britain. Abijah founded a furniture company. In 1869 it called Bryan Churchill Porter; later became B.C. Porter, Sons.
