He graduated from Yale in 1800. He taught school and studied Law before Theology. He wrote for many religious publications to help support his eight children. His brother, Charles, also wrote books. Royal was the 4th Minister of Kensington Congregational Church. He came from North Church in Hartford on 17 OCT 1741. He was ordained on 26 JUNE 1816 and served until 26 JUNE 1859. On 19 APR 1835 he delivered a 28 page sermon at the funeral of the Rev. Samuel Goodrich. Parsonage which was on corner of Primrose and Robbins Road burned in the 1950's or 60's.
Royal is listed in Postmaster's Letter [microfilm] 1839.
