Vernon died at age 76 at New Britain General Hospital. He was living in New Britain and had formerly lived in Kensington. He was a graduate of New Britain High School and of Kingswood School in West Hartford. He had worked at American Hardware Corporation [Emhart] and had been employed by Crowninshield Management Corporation of Massachusetts for 25 years.
He was survived by his wife, Barbara M. [Jablonski]; sons and daughters, Vernon H. Brierley III and his wife, Elizabeth of Branford, Bret Brierley and his wife, Donna of Marlborough, Nancy Bradley and her husband, Robert of Killingworth, William Brierley and his wife, Alison of Guilford, Randall Wenz and his wife, Jennie in Nevada, Steven Wenz in Maine, Eric Wenz and his wife, Nadine of Rocky Hill, Christopher Wenz and his wife, Marie of Enfield, Kurt Wenz of Torrington, and Susan Langlois and her husband, Paul of Barkhampsted; 24 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother, George Traut Brierley and his wife, Marilyn of Southington; three nephews; four nieces and many grand-nephews and grand nieces.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Nancy Neece and two sisters, Elisabeth [Brierley] Odaland and Patricia Brierley. Funeral services and burial were private. There were no calling hours. Memorial donations to Klingberg Family Centers in New Britain. Porter's Funeral Service in Kensington was in charge of arrangements.
