1 He was egaged in perfecting nail making machinery. Daniel and Asaph Goodrich made the first cut nails in this country; a trade previously forbidden by law. He was granted a patent in December, 1796 for cut nails and wrought nail machines. He manufactured nails in a water powered factory on Belcher's Stream. In 1798 he sold the factory to George Hubbard, who sold the nail patents to Jehoshaphat Stow, who in 1798 erected a nail factory [Stow Factory at Wadsworth Falls]. Daniel patented an oscillating steam engine for propelling boats in 1809. He built several steamboats on the Monoqahoke and Ohio rivers, 1813 - 1816. He created the 1st steamboat on the Mississippi.
