Irene lived in Berlin and Cromwell before moving to Middletown. Her obituary states that she was a descendent of Mayflower pilgrims and of the founders of the towns of Farmington and Haddam. She was a hat designer and lecturer on hat design. Irene was the owner of Beehive Antique Store on Percival Avenue, Kensington, retiring in 1977. She was a charter member of the Berlin Historical Society and a member of the Cromwell Historical Society. She helped develop the Parent Teacher Association in Berlin. Other memberships included the Mr. and Mrs. Club, the Hilltop Club, the Berlin Grange, Central Pamona and National Grange, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. Irene died at Middlesex Convalescent Home, Middletown at age 82. Irene was predeceased by her husband, Louis E. Brunette. She was survived by two sons, Paul E. Brunette of New London and John D. Brunette of Mesquite, Texas; a daughter, Dona Mae Benoit of New Britain; two sisters, Marjorie Sanchez of Marlborough and Alva N. Antiantis of Berlin; six grandchildren, Gregory Benoit, Jeffrey Benoit, Scott Benoit, Douglas Wygal, Rhonda Belton and Susan Rieben. She was also, survived by eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours were at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, New Britain. Funeral Services were at Berlin Congregational Church. Memorial donations to the Women's Foundation of Berlin Congregational Church.
