Edward died at age 58 at the Duke Medical Center. He and his wife, Nancy, were living in Spring Lake, NC. Edward was a graduate of Berlin High School and was employed by the Town of Berlin; H.O. Penn Company, Inc.; and by Cape Fear Lift Trucks Inc.. He was a US Army Vietnam War veteran. He was survived by his wife, Nancy [Chasse] Alkas; a son, Edward Alkas, Jr.; a daughter, Michelle Alkas; three grandchildren; his brothers, David, and Paula Alkas, Fred and Kathy Alkas of Berlin; a sister, Irene [Alkas] and Donald Woitowitz of Plainville; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Alkas; a brother, George Alkas; and an infant brother [his twin]. Military funeral services were held in North Carolina.
