Physician and surgeon, he was born and raised in Berlin. 1860 census records list him as age 46, a physician.
North describes him as "trusted and beloved physician of nearly every family in town." He lived in one of the houses just north of what is now the Berlin Free Library, probably the one nearer the library.
Listed as medical attendant, registrar of births in Berlin annual reports of 1875-1883.
